Head of Iran's AIDS Society warns against misinformation
Tehran, Dec 23, IRNA-AIDS story in Iran today is a true story that everyone needs to know, said an official in charge of AIDS here on Friday.
Talking to IRNA here on Friday, head of the Managing Board of Iran's AIDS Association Hamid-Reza Sha'eri said offering wrong information to society is "gravest concern" for the society.
Sha'eri was speaking to IRNA on the sidelines of a charity activity at Tehran's Niavaran Park in which a one-ton gigantic pizza was baked.
"We have come to this pizza baking ceremony today to tell the people that those affected by AIDS, too, eat and work side by side with the ordinary folks," said the physician.
He added, "Many of our citizens still do not know the ways through which the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is spread and flee from AIDS patients when they identify them, while there is actually no need to do so."
The AIDS Association official reiterated, "Unfortunately during the past few years our people have been fed with lots of wrong information on AIDS, and that had been the source of lots of problems both for AIDS victims and for ordinary citizens."
He reiterated, "We need not scare the people of acquaintance with HIV, but rather have to train them about the ways it is acquired and how to avoid getting AIDS."
Head of Iran's AIDs Association said that his affiliated organization's activities are focussed under four axes, namely avoiding infection, providing information, and supporting the AIDS victims, and conducting research works.
Sha'eri added, "Iran's AIDS Association is now in touch with all research and scientific centers involved in AIDS studies around the globe."
According to him the association has achieved that objective only during the course of the past eight months after its official establishment, while it has been busy in the field unofficially for three years now.
