CANADIAN GOVERNMENT MUST TAKE POSITION ON THE ACCUSTIONS OF TORUTRE AND MISTREATMENT OF THE 17 MUSLIM CANADIAN ON ‘TERORISM” CHARG

CANADIAN GOVERNMENT MUST TAKE POSITION ON THE ACCUSTIONS OF TORUTRE AND MISTREATMENT OF THE 17 MUSLIM CANADIAN ON ‘TERORISM” CHARGES.

There are several matters of serious concerns in the process of bail hearing and the detention conditions of the accused young men:
1. The lights in their cells are on 24 hours.
2. They are forced to eat their meal within 5 minutes otherwise the meal will be removed.
3. They are kept in solitary with no access to fresh air and are banned from speaking to the guards.
4. There are indications of them being physically assaulted by the guards.
5. There is a clear effort by the authorities to ban the process with damaging effect on the case.
6. Many of the accused still don’t have access to an attorney.
7. Their attorney’s are not provided with the full text of their files and supporting documents. The more the judiciary system delays the flow of the information to the representative of the accused the more time it offers to the media to spread the unfounded stories amongst Canadians.
We urge Canadian Government to guarantee that the accused are being tried with the presumption of innocence, due process and protection of all their constitutional rights.
